I'm in a life rut, and want to start fresh with a new haircut... seriously, please help!?

.

So the question is... What haircut should I get? :-) ANYTHING YOU HAVE TO OFFER WILL HELP!

i have:

*sort of a cross between oval, heart-shaped, and diamond-shaped face. lol

*extremely fair skin

*all delicate features (brows, mouth, chin), except

*a somewhat prominent nose (bleh!)

*my eyes (gray-blue, with long lashes) are my best feature

dark (chestnut) hair that is naturally straight and fine

right now my hair is:

*sort of long... a few inches below my shoulders

*no bangs

*not dyed or chemically treated in any way.

*i almost always wear it up in a bun, but people tell me i look totally different (better) with it down...

ALSO - in case it matters, i'm in my late 20s, average height, and slender.

i'm looking to "start over" in my life, and i'll be honest, i'm sort of hair-illiterate.... lol, so any suggestions (including photos :D ) would help! :p thanks so much, everyone.

What if you got some gentle highlights - not extreme, and cut your hair in a layered style to frame your face, and shoulder length.

Things to consider:

+ with shorter hair, it'll be a little less straight and heavy so it'll have more body and may have a soft wave or frame your face nicely

+ with your hair shorter, you might find that it thickens up a little too (less weight=less stress on roots=healthier hair)

+ if you do highlights start with something NOT drastic so you can get used to it and it doesn't scare you

+ if you want, get a cut that is a little longer than what your final goal is, but similar in style (if you want short layers, get medium-length layers first) and see how you like it. Another $20 or $30 haircut to make it shorter won't kill you and you'll have the chance to change the style if you don't like the first one.

+ ask the stylist to show you some different ways to fix it - bring in some barrettes, bobby pins, a headband, etc and she can show you pretty things to do for dressy days, easy things to do, etc... so that you're not tempted to do something out of habit like a bun. In fact, once you've figured out what will work, treat yourself to some pretty hair stuff like barrettes, headbands, etc.

I don't mean to say anything to upset you but it seems like you don't love your nose. If that is the case, don't get a short bob, cause it'll bring attention to the center of your face.

Maybe start by coloring your hair...try something totally new like blond, or if you don't want anything that drastic, try light brown, or just add highlights. Also, add layers and/or bangs

This style would look great in any color:

Layers and a side part look great like in this pic:

hope this all helps!!

Maybe if you want a drastic change to start over with, you could try cutting it shorter than normal and dying it a lighter color, say honey blonde or something. Also, you sound like you sort of have the same face shape as me and lucky you, you can pull off almost any style you like.

Side bangs are really in right now as is scene hair if you want something really wild. Without a picture it's hard to determine what would look good on you, but I would say go for a layered cut, a lillt above your shoulder, no shorter than chin length though. dye it a dark blonde, maybe with lighter highlights and get some bangs either side swept or straight bangs.

Something like this might look good.
