Are bengalis(indian), decendents of the Aryan or Dravidian race?

I'm sort of confused about this, because, somebody said they're Dravidian, but i went to south India once and most bengali's look nothing like them.

If it helps, i'm a bengali, i have a skin tone thats lighter than average for an indian, but not very fair. My eyes are gray, and i have dark brown to black hair.

Most of my family is quite fair, though my dads dark.

lol, i have no more info. oh yeah, i'm short. (5'3)

ofcourse this question isn't about me, its about bengali people in general.

thanks!!

and no rude and insensitive answers please. I'm not trying to be racist or anything i'm just curious. ;)

Bengal is located in the North East portion of the Indian subcontinent, After the debacle in North West, the Indian Aborigines (Dravidian) moved south wards, though there is no definite evidence available to prove this, however the tradition followed by the Southerner of India, till date follow, the traditions of the people who once lived in Mohenjodaro. The Aryans were the people who were supposed to have come to India from the Central Asian plains. The Aryans mainly settled in the North Indian plains that is the Gangetic plains. Bengalis are definitely have the Aryans strains in them.

there is no such thing as the aryan race. it is a ficticious race of people made up by the nazis to prove that they were the decendents of this super master race (aryans) and were the rightful leaders of the world. It is all bs and there are no facts or evidence to support it. it was just propaganda.

To clear it up for a previous responder, there truly was an Aryan race in the middle east. NOT the "aryans" that Hitler spoke of. Please learn your history.

As far as bengalis, it depends on how far back you go. They were decended from Aryans, who were descended from Dravidians. BUT there are also many other branches, like asian, tibetan, and other indians, so it really depends on exactly where your family came from to try to trace it. Most resources will give you both Aryan and Dravidian.

Are bengalis(indian), decendents of the Aryan or Dravidian race?

"They are an eastern Indo-Aryan people, who are also descended from Austro-Asiatic and Dravidian peoples, and closely related to the Oriya, Assamese, Biharis, and other East Indians, as well as to Munda and Tibeto-Burman peoples. As a result, Bengalis are a heterogeneous and considerably diverse ethnic group"

Are bengalis(indian), decendents of the Aryan or Dravidian race?

I would say most bengalis are a mixture of dravidian and mongolide genese, the fair skin in some bengalis comes from the burma side not from pakistan or afghanistan side. you guys are so close to burma and china and pretty far from pakistan and afghanistan. Aryan race if it existed only reached i would say western parts of india, places like punjab, kashmir etc... not as far east as bengal
